Use the flexibility of remote work for good, not evil. Good: Getting up for a sunrise hike. Taking your dog for an afternoon walk. Getting out of the house for lunch. Scheduling time for networking. Traveling while working, if that suits you. Evil: Using all of your time - from waking up to going to bed - to work. Not leaving the house for days. All signs point to burnout, but you just keep going. Use the power of remote work for good, not evil.
Change it up all the time. New locations. New chairs. New routines. Don’t get stuck in the same old thing all the time.

Schedule an “Outbox Day.” Working remote is convenient and productive, but it can be difficult to grow and maintain your professional network. I schedule one day per month where I focus solely on proactively sending emails: 1. Check-in with an old boss or colleague 2. Cold email someone that I’d love to meet ie: someone working in a similar role or someone I follow on Twitter who I’ve never met 3. Schedule a coffee meeting using LunchClub or a similar service.

Be hyper-aware when and why you are productive. Surrender to your natural rhythm. Earlier in my career, I was most productive in the night hours. I just accepted it and shifted my entire daily routine. Nowadays, with family, I know my productive hours are after the kids got dropped off at school. And then again after they are in bed until midnight or a little longer. And don't fight writer's block. Trust the process :-)

Self reflection is critical before you dive into a remote role to ensure that you are setting yourself up for success both professionally and personally. It’s important that you are honest with yourself about what you are getting into and how you might react to it. If you are an extrovert who thrives in social settings or you find it difficult to self-start when you’re alone then remote probably isn’t for you.

Think about the ROI of your time, is it better spent commuting, shopping and cooking food? Or working and chilling, having time to think about things deeply?

Take advantage of the true freedom remote work brings, and intentionally design your day to be perfect for your life and goals. That's the whole point of remote! If there's a work/play rhythm that works well for you, make it part of your schedule. Remote work puts more emphasis on the output than the process, so maximize your output by creating an enjoyable work/life, and don't "suffer" through being constantly worried about whether your team knows if you're working or not.
Experiment with how you work best. Can you work from home? If so, make sure you set up a comfortable space. Or find a coffee shop or co-working space. Try working at different hours of the day if you can.
